Well, before we go into this month's issue l thought I'd share one of Rick and my memorable moments for this month. We - or rather I -decided to book a table for a romantic dinner for two on Valentine's Day at the Radisson, which is where we had our wedding reception. Rick came along with me and paid. Thanks honey!
Anyway, just after we were seated at a lovely table close to the pianist our waiter came up to our table and introduced himself. While I looked at his name tag, which said 'Patrick', he said 'Good evening, my name is Andrew.' Then he looked at his name tag and said, 'No it's not, it's Patrick and I'll be your waiter this evening.' Before he had walked away, Rick and I both cracked up laughing. Needless to say, he didn't come back. It's a shame, because he seemed like a nice guy.
Oh, and in case you were wondering what happened to our saltwater pool, I found out within hours of sending out my e-zine - thanks Bill : - ) that my dream pool was going to cost about three times what I had thought, so for now I am still happily floating in the spa bath in our bathroom, with added sea salt!
Did you know that bathing in sea salt cleanses your aura? It can also help wash away negative emotions. Just e-mail if you'd like to know a wonderful bathing ritual that I've learned that works wonders.
The good news is, we got a new wide screen TV which is awesome. Now we have four TV's, one for everyone - Rick, me and our two cats Oscar and George!

| Feature Article: 10 Strategies for a Sea Change
Did you know that Shakespeare is the person credited with the first use of the words 'sea change' in a scene from The Tempest?
'Full fathom five thy father lies', sings the nymph Ariel to Ferdinand. '...Nothing of him that doth fade, but doth suffer a sea change into something rich and strange.'
This term stayed relatively obscure in Australia until the 1998 ABC TV series Seachange. As Laura Gibson discovered the real meaning of personal happiness in her new life in Pearl Bay with the mysterious Diver Dan, suddenly everyone was talking about 'doing a sea change'.
Even though the Laura Gibson-style escape is still the most commonly accepted definition of making a sea change, it also means any deliberate and significant lifestyle change that leads to an improvement in a person's previous lifestyle.
Making such a change, is the focus for a large number of my clients.
Many of them have goals that involve making a fresh start in their working lives. Sometimes, it's a new business. It may be transitioning from a highly-paid career they don't enjoy to doing work they love, or it can be working on a succession plan so they can confidently walk away from their business whenever they'd like to, to pursue a new set of deams.
Something I've noticed that all these people have in common is that they are changing their lifestyles to enjoy more personal fulfilment.
I made my own sea change three years ago when I left my professional career as a chartered accountant in private practice to become a coach and I can't begin to tell you what a huge difference it has made to my life to be doing work that I truly love.
Are you living your preferred lifestyle, or is it time for you to make your own sea change?
If you know that you are ready to go, then here are my 10 strategies that may help you make it happen:
- Create an inspiring vision: Always start here as your vision is ultimately what will drive you and help you shape your plans.
- Get clear on your current reality: Just like setting out on any journey, you should always know exactly where you are starting from so that you can determine exactly how far away you are from where you intend to go and be realistic about what resources you will need and how long it may take you to get there.
- Brainstorm all options: There may be more than one or two options that may provide you with the kind of sea change you are seeking, so spend some time here considering what can be possible - it's probably more than you may initially think!
- Research your options: Gather as much information as you can and speak to others wherever possible to help you on your fact-finding mission.
- Assess each option against your vision and your personal values: Are you clear on your personal values? Assessing your options against them is a critical step and will help you choose your best option. A coach can help you to do this.
- Make a choice: This step may involve consultation with friends and loved ones. Remember to speak your truth at this point. You may be surprised at the support you will get.
- Create an action plan: Document your plan. That's right, write it down! Make it as detailed as you can.
- Set a timetable: Once you have created your plan, assign time frames to it. Remember, a goal is just a dream with a deadline.
- Action the plan: Work the plan. Persevere when you encounter obstacles. See them as lessons, not setbacks. Ask for help if you need it. Who says you need to do everything on your own?
- Start living your dream! : - )
If you'd like to read some amazing stories of Australians who have already made their sea change, pick up Cindy Dowling's book: Sea change: Australians in pursuit of the good life. It's great. She also includes a lot of information and research on the whole Australian sea change phenomenon.
I think every successful sea change starts with a powerful vision that will energise and inspire you and help you find all of the resources you'll need to make it happen. I know my personal sea change was greatly helped by my choice to work with a life coach, who gave me the support, structure and sounding board I needed to help make my transition into my new life a smooth one.
If you're ready to make a sea change and would like some structure and support in doing it, give me a call! I'd love the opportunity to assist you in achieving your goals and life's dreams.
