10 good reasons to get intimate every day

Nothing is as soothing at the end of a busy, or stressful day as a big hug, an intimate meal, a gentle massage or dare I say, sex, with your partner.

If you're not in the habit of finding time to get physically intimate with your partner every day, here are 10 good reasons why you should:

  1. Sex helps to boost your immune system: Did you know that during sex, antigens like immunoglobulin A are released, and these are proven to fight the comon cold and flu? Here's more good news – the more frequently you're sexually active, the more antigens your body releases and the healthier you're likely to be.

  2. Sex lowers your blood pressure: Physical touch can significantly improve blood pressure. A research study conducted by the University of Paisley found that sex reduces diastolic blood pressure (the bottom number in a blood pressure reading).

  3. Sex helps maintain a healthy heart: Researchers from the New England Research Institute found that men are 45% less likely to suffer from cardiovascular diseases if they have regular sex.

  4. Sex can help you sleep: Sheenie Ambardar MD, a U.S. psychiatrist, says 'After orgasm, the hormone prolactin is released, which is responsible for the feelings of relaxation and sleepiness after sex.'

  5. Sex can help relieve many body aches and pains, including migraines:'Interestingly, migraine headaches can almost always be alleviated by masturbation, if you do it as soon as you feel a migraine coming on' says Louise L. Hay, in You Can Heal Your Life. Arthritist specialist, Dr. George Erlich, conducted a study on his patients and discovered that those who had sex often experienced significantly less pain than their counterparts who didn't.

  6. Sex can reduce your stress levels: During sex, our bodies produce dopamine, endorphins and oxytocin, which together help us to de-stress and increase our natural happiness levels.

  7. Sex is an enjoyable form of exercise: Many of us recoil in horror when we hear the word 'workout', unless that workout involves sex. During sex our breathing rates rise, which in turn burns calories. The good news is, if you have sex three times a week, you can burn around 7,500 calories a year!

  8. Sex creates strong muscles: Sex is a great workout for quads, back and pelvic 'core' muscles. According to the National Health Service (NHS), strong pelvic muscles can mean stronger orgasms.

  9. Sex can lengthen your life span: A study published in the British Medical Journal revealed that male participants who had regular sex tender to live significantly longer than men who rarely had sex.

  10. Sex can make you look as much as 10 years younger!: Scottish researcher and clinical neuropsychologist David Weeks in his 18-year-long study, the Super-young project, at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, concluded that 'eventful love lives' are a hallmark of individuals who look and feel at least 10 years younger than their chronological age. His claim that revving up your sex life will lop four to seven years off your biological age is supported by research elsewhere which suggests that sex and orgasm have independent physiological effects on the brain and the body and stimulate the immune system's T3 lymphocytes which are known to fight infection.
